From the Annals of the Stars – In 1905, Lucille Fay Lesueur better known to the world as Joan Crawford was born in San Antonio. Crawford’s father abandoned the family before her birth and her step-father and mother raised her. She started her career as a dancer before transitioning to silent films. She was one of the few silent film actors who made a smooth transition to “talkies.” She appeared in more than 50 movies, winning the Academy Award for her role in Mildred Pierce.
