Astros Magic Number Update

Astros Magic Number: 0

Red isn’t quite sure how they pulled it off, but the Astros are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2005.  They will play a Wildcard game at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday at 7:08 pm.  Red congratulates Mgr. A.J. Hinch and the entire ball club on surprising the baseball world.  But for the September swoon they would have won the AL West going away.  As it stands, fans will have to hope that they can eke out one more road win to keep the magic alive for at least a few more games.

With probable Cy Young award winner Dallas Keuchel on the mound Tuesday, the Astros have a shot.  Keuchel has not exactly been a road warrior.  Keuchel is 5-8  away from Minute Maid Park this season with all of his losses coming on the road.  The good news is that this season, Keuchel is 2-0 against Los Yanquis with a 0.00 ERA.  The Astros really need something like a 3 hit complete game from their Ace on Tuesday.

Sticking With the Astros Choke Watch

Red’s lack of confidence seems to inspire them.

Astros are currently 2.5 games behind the hated Texas Rangers and 0.5 games ahead of the California Angels of Anaheim, Orange County, Los Angeles or the General Vicinity of Southern California.

Magic Numbers:

7 to clinch AL West – it still aint gonna happen

4 to clinch Wildcard Playoff spot – winning the last 3 would guarantee a Game 163.

Astros Choke Watch is Back

After blowing it last night against the lowly Mariners, the Astros are now currently 2.5 games behind the hated Texas Rangers. But more importantly, are now 0.5 games behind the Somewhere in the General Vicinity of Southern California and possibly in Anaheim Angels for the last Wildcard spot.  This is first time that the Astros have been out of a playoff spot in over 5 months.

Magic Numbers:

8 to clinch AL West  – It aint gonna happen folks.

6 to clinch a Wildcard Playoff berth – Now needing serious help.

Could the Angels just lose a game every once in a while?

Astros Choke Watch/Magic Number Update

Now that the Astros seem have at least temporarily put down the hose and stopped sucking gas for a few days, Red may transition us back to a Magic Number Update.

How it stands right now:

Astros are 1.5 games behind the Rangers.

Magic Number to clinch AL West  is 15

Magic Number to clinch Wildcard Playoff spot is 11

Now go out and beat the previously left for dead Angels.

Astros Choke Watch Replaces Astros Magic Number Update

The Astros Magic Number Update has been temporarily replaced by the Astros Choke Watch.  Astros are now 2.5 games behind the hated Texas Rangers after getting swept in a 4 game series in Arlington.   A combination of 18 Ranger wins and Astros losses will now eliminate the Astros from winning the AL West.  Winning a Wildcard Playoff spot looks increasingly meaningless since it would likely mean a one game playoff in New York and Red can predict how that will come out.
