From the Annals of the Losing Litigators – In 2010, then Texas Attorney General (and now Poor Idiot Governor) Greg Abbott made the following statement regarding the passage of the Affordable Care Act: “The federal health care legislation passed tonight violates the United States Constitution and unconstitutionally infringes upon Texans’ individual liberties. To protect all Texans’ constitutional rights, preserve the constitutional framework intended by our nation’s founders, and defend our state from further infringement by the federal government, the State of Texas and other states will legally challenge the federal health care legislation.”
Abbott completely failed in his attempt (and wasted a bunch of Texas tax dollars) to have the ACA overturned in federal court. In National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, the Unitied States Supreme Court upheld Congress’ power to enact most provisions of the ACA and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act including the individual mandate requiring most Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty. The Court upheld the mandate as a constitutional exercise of Congress’s taxing power.
Former GOP Speaker of the House John Boehner unloaded on Sen. Ted Cruz (TP-Texas) in an interview. After calling the Texas Senator “Lucifer in the flesh”, Boehner kept going.
“I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”
Boehner also stated that Cruz would become president “over my dead body.” Boehner is apparently still seething over Cruz’s promise that he could lead a government shut-down that would result in a repeal of the Affordable Care Act. When it became obvious that Cruz was blowing smoke up the GOP’s collective pants and that he had little or no support for his cause in the Senate, Boehner and colleagues were left hung out to dry in the face of withering criticism. What quickly became apparent to all was that Cruz’s ploy was nothing more than a chance for the junior senator to put his name out front and set up his run for the White House. Cruz never had any intention of doing anything more than hogging the spotlight and running up his national name recognition.
For his part Cruz denied ever having worked with Boehner – another almost certainly verifiable lie from the lips of the Tea Party hero.
Meanwhile, Satanists were complaining that comparing Cruz to the Devil was an insult to all Devil worshippers.
From the Annals of Bloviation – In 2010, then Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot made the following statement regarding the recently passed Affordable Care Act: “The federal health care legislation passed tonight violates the United States Constitution and unconstitutionally infringes upon Texans’ individual liberties. To protect all Texans’ constitutional rights, preserve the constitutional framework intended by our nation’s founders, and defend our state from further infringement by the federal government, the State of Texas and other states will legally challenge the federal health care legislation.”
Wrong, wrong and wrong. As our latest in a long line of Poor Idiot Governors, Abbot has cost Texas literally billions of dollars in pandering to his Tea Party base. Not to mention the many dollars Abbot has wasted as AG and Governor in frivolous litigation.
“You know who one of those millions of Americans who’s lost their health care because of Obamacare? That would be me. I don’t have health care right now. I had purchased an individual policy and Blue Cross Blue Shield canceled all their individual policies in the state of Texas effective December 31st. So our health care got canceled.” Sen. Ted Cruz (TP-Texas).
A very moving story, that is if it wasn’t completely fabricated. The whole tale smelled from the beginning. You don’t lose your health care with a single letter. Moreover, if true, then Cruz is a moron for not securing another plan from the many choices. More importantly, it was pure bullshit as a part of Cruz’s agenda to destroy the American healthcare system. The Cruz campaign had to quickly fess up and throw Ted’s insurance broker under the bus. Cruz was automatically enrolled in another plan by his provider. Since the Affordable Care Act is actually working, Cruz has to lie and make up stuff to paint a picture of failure.
